HELP THOUSANDS ... HUD Secretary addresses NAHB
In remarks before a special
session of the NAHB Board of Directors on May 29, HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan
announced new actions that his agency is taking to help ensure that consumers
can use the $8,000 first-time home buyer tax credit at the closing table.
This announcement details FHA's rules allowing state Housing Finance Agencies
and certain non-profits to "monetize" up to the full amount of the
tax credit (depending on the amount of the mortgage) so that borrowers can
immediately apply the funds toward their down payments. [ more ]
Tax Economist Answers Questions About the Home Buyer Credit
Rob Dietz, Ph.D., director of tax issues for the National
Association of Home Builders, discusses the $8,000 first-time homebuyer tax
credit in this videotaped interview. [ more ]
The new tax credit provides a
great opportunity for first-time homebuyers and is effective through December
31st, 2009. Combined with todayÕs near record low interest rates, the large
selection of homes on the market and very competitive pricing, the tax credit
provides the extra incentive needed to get prospective buyers who have been
sitting on the fence into the market. First-time homebuyers taking advantage
of a $7,500 or $8,000 tax credit now can find an updated form to claim the
credit at www.irs.gov.
